Establishment of earth tides effect on water level fluctuations in an unconfined hard rock aquifer using spectral analysis

چکیده
Short-interval water level measurements using automatic water level recorder in a deep well in an unconfined crystalline rock aquifer at the campus of NGRI, near Hyderabad shows a cyclic fluctuation in the water levels. The observed values clearly show the principal trend due to rainfall recharge. Spectral analysis was carried out to evaluate correlation of the cyclic fluctuation to the synthetic earth tides as well as groundwater withdrawal time series in the surrounding. It was found that these fluctuations have considerably high correlation with earth tides whereas groundwater pumping does not show any significant correlation with water table fluctuations. متن کاملRemoval of barometric pressure effects and earth tides from observed water levels.
The effects of barometric pressure and earth tide changes are often observed in ground water level measurements. These disturbances can make aquifer test interpretation difficult by masking the small changes induced by aquifer testing at late times and great distances. A computer utility is now available that automatically removes the effects of barometric pressure and earth tides from water le...
متن کاملLeast Squares Techniques for Extracting Water Level Fluctuations in the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea
Extracting the main cyclic fluctuations from sea level changes of the Persian Gulf and Oman Sea is vital for understanding the behavior of tides and isolating non-tidal impacts such as those related to climate and changes in the ocean-sea circulations. This study compares two spectral analysis methods including: Least Squares Spectral Analysis (LSSA) and Least Squares Harmonic Estimation (LSHE)...

Hard rock aquifers for the purpose of this Paper mean the non-carbonate, fractured rock aquifers in the terrain covered by crystalline basement complex, metamorphic rocks and also by extensive effusive volcanic rocks like the basalts of western India (Deccan traps. Ground water development in hard rock aquifer areas has always played a secondary role compared to that in the areas having high-yi...
متن کاملTidal groundwater level fluctuations in L-shaped leaky coastal aquifer system
This paper presents an analytical solution to describe tidal groundwater level fluctuations in a coastal leaky aquifer system bounded by water–land boundaries that form a right angle (referred to as L-shaped coastlines). The system consists of an unconfined aquifer, a confined aquifer and a leaky layer between them. Previously published analytical solutions that discuss only single aquifer cons...
